Questch is a typical fruit from Alsace. It is mainly cultivated in the northern part of the region on the foothills of the Vosges and more particularly in Alsace Bossue. It is an oblong-shaped plum, purple outside with yellow flesh, flavorful and very sweet. The fruit ripens in early October. It has a rough, elongated, and flat pit that detaches easily. The fruits ferment for about 6 weeks and then the eau-de-vie is made by distilling the fermented fruit.
Before the war, it was considered essential after a good meal. It is a distinctive and characterful brandy, with a slightly nutty taste.
